Our History
Founded in 1921 by, among others, Franklin D. Roosevelt—later U.S. president—and Thomas J. Watson, founder of IBM, the Netherland-America Foundation (NAF) has long fostered transatlantic connections to strengthen mutual understanding between the Netherlands and the United States. Under the patronage of Princess Margriet of the Netherlands and her husband Professor Pieter van Vollenhoven, the NAF has empowered thousands to explore new horizons through educational, cultural, and business exchange. Based in New York City as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the Foundation operates seven additional chapters across the United States and one in the Netherlands.
